Hey there Arties, I wanted to add one more Payne’s Blue Gray Monochromatic card to the list this week. This time I paired it with Hero Arts + Gina K Collaboration Stamp called Friendship Blooms. I painted it with a bit a light coming out from the bouquet and the outer edges darkened with more Payne’s Blue Gray watercolor by Daniel Smith
Supplies List
1 1/2” Silver Black Velvet Watercolor Brush (you can use the any wide brush — Paula got this one for me for Christmas this year)
Steps to Create this Card
First, I trimmed down a sheet of Arches Hot Press watercolor paper to 4.5 x 6”.
Next, I stamped the image out with my MISTI and some Hero Arts Clear Embossing and Watermark Ink and melted White Embossing Powder of it with my heat tool.
Then, I taped it to the front of my Tim Holtz Glass mat with purple tape. This left about a 1/4” border around the workspace.
Next, I used my 1.5” watercolor brush to lay down a good amount of water over the paper.
Then, I dropped in Payne’s Blue Gray watercolor with my No 6 brush all around the edges and let the color move toward the center. The embossed image kept the color from moving beyond the image’s lines.
I repeated this step until my edges were as dark as I liked, drying between each layer. It’s important to keep the entire project wet during each layer, or you will get blooms and harsh lines.
Next, I dropped in a dark concentration of Payne’s Blue Gray in the shadowing areas of the bouquet, allowing the wet paper to carry the color into each petal. This leaves more pigment in the shaded areas and less toward the outer edge of each petal.
Next, I splattered some Dr Ph Martin’s Bleed Proof White and some concentrated Payne’s Blue Gray watercolor over the front of the project.
Then, I embossed the sentiment onto some black cardstock with white embossing powder and popped it up over the front of my project with foam tape.
I haven’t decided if I’m going to mount this on black foam board, or make a larger than life card out of it. Either way, I am super pleased with how it turned out.
I really appreciate you joining me for this post and hope you will hang out with me on Saturday night at 9PM for Del & Artie Live. We will be making more Payne’s Blue Gray goodness, then.
